Ideal Lubricant Molybdenum Disulfide MoS2

Molybdenum disulfide is currently the most widely used solid lubricant. The forms and methods are diversified, such as powders, oils, and water agents; or they are compatible with other metals or polymer materials. The molybdenum disulfide suspension is applied and sprayed on the friction surface to form a dry film by using various solvents or binders; the molybdenum disulfide is adhered to the friction surface by ion spraying, sputtering to form a film.

Molybdenum disulfide belongs to a hexagonal layered structure and is a unit layer composed of three planar layers of S-Mo-S. Inside the cell layer, each molybdenum atom is surrounded by trigonally distributed sulfur atoms, which are linked by strong covalent bonds. The layer is connected with the weak molecular force, and the molybdenum disulfide is easily split from the layer to the layer, so it has good solid lubricating properties.
Lubricating oil will evaporate in high vacuum and have adverse effects on vacuum and substances in vacuum, while molybdenum disulfide is not. Molybdenum disulfide has a lower friction coefficient in vacuum than in the atmosphere, molybdenum disulfide It still has excellent lubricating properties under ultra-high vacuum conditions, so molybdenum disulfide is an effective lubricating material under high vacuum conditions.
